Cynthia Ng is an anchor, senior editor, and producer at Astro AWANI, Malaysia’s leading news channel.
As the primary face of Astro AWANI’s English-language programming, Cynthia anchors the prime-time news bulletin AWANI Tonight and fronts AWANI Review, a series of in-depth conversations with global and regional newsmakers shaping the future of business, policy, and society. Passionate about impactful storytelling, her coverage spans major historical events, including Malaysia’s 14th General Election, as well as the MH370 and MH17 aviation tragedies.
Following an editorial stint at Bloomberg prior to rejoining Astro AWANI, Cynthia developed a sharp acumen in corporate and macroeconomic reporting. Over her career, she has secured high-profile interviews with global figures including former IMF Chief Christine Lagarde, Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, and a rare royal broadcast interview with Malaysia’s 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. She regularly interviews ministers, policymakers, and C-suite executives from multinationals such as Google, Microsoft, Citigroup, Petronas, and AirAsia.
Beyond daily broadcasting, Cynthia spent five years anchoring the Merdeka Award Roundtable, a flagship nation-building series supported by Petronas, ExxonMobil, and Shell, and produced an award-winning documentary on drug abuse. Within Astro AWANI, she played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and launching the channel's English digital platform, delivering bite-sized analysis on leadership, governance, and strategy.
Fluent in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, Cynthia is a sought-after moderator and emcee for major regional conferences, economic forums, and corporate roundtables. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Mass Communications (Film and Television) from UCSI University Malaysia and was named a top-four finalist for the South East Asia Women of the Future Awards.
