Prof. Po-Shen Loh is a mathematician, social entrepreneur, and internationally renowned educator whose work sits at the intersection of mathematics, artificial intelligence, education, and human creativity. A professor of mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University since 2010, he is widely recognised for transforming the way complex problem-solving and critical thinking are taught in the age of AI.
From 2013 to 2023, Prof. Loh served as the National Coach of the USA team for the International Mathematical Olympiad, leading the United States to multiple world championship victories, including consecutive first-place finishes in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. A former International Mathematical Olympiad silver medallist himself, he is now Vice President of the IMO Foundation, where he continues to champion global collaboration and future talent development.
Beyond academia, Prof. Loh is the founder of several pioneering initiatives focused on scalable human-centred innovation. He created Expii, a free personalised learning platform designed to make mathematics more engaging and accessible, and developed LIVE, an inventive educational ecosystem that combines elite student mentors with professional actors to create highly interactive online learning experiences.
An award-winning researcher, Prof. Loh’s work spans combinatorics, probability theory, algorithms, and computer science. His achievements include the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, one of the highest honours bestowed by the United States government on early-career scientists and engineers.
